FT5ZM – Amsterdam Island DXpedition 2014

The most important DXpedition of 2014 was announced with the principles of April 2013. A group of amateur radio operators: K0IR, 9V1YC, EY8MM, FM5CD, HK1R, K4UEE, K9CT, LA6VM, N4GRN, N6HC, VE3EJ, VE7CT, W6IZT and WB9Z will be active from Amsterdam Island FT-Z 18 days between 15 January – 20 February 2014 as FT8ZM (Most wanted). We are very happy to announce that for this important DXPedition The Mediterraneo DX Club is a sponsor of FT5ZM. Free internal QSL service available for all MDXC Members.

It’s our pleasure to announce a major ham radio expedition to one of the more remote places on Earth, Amsterdam Island in the southern Indian Ocean. This “DXpedition” is made possible by the generous financial support of the amateur radio community and the world-wide audience following our progress and by the cooperation and support of the French government.
Whether you are an amateur radio operator hoping to contact a new country or a casual visitor, we welcome you to our website. We invite you to follow our progress in planning our trip to Amsterdam Island and the voyage itself. After we land on Amsterdam Island, we hope to share our adventures with you in as near “real time” as possible. The content of our website will be constantly updated, so check back frequently.
Amsterdam Island is unique in its history, ecology, and strategic location. We’ll be discussing all those things right here. So, share our plans, our dreams, and our setbacks. Feel our adrenalin rush as we leave the pier in Fremantle, Australia in January. Experience the wind in our faces as we sail and share our excitement as we step ashore on Amsterdam Island and begin handing out radio contacts.

The MV Braveheart will arrive in the port of Fremantle, Australia on January 12, 2014 and be available for the team to board. Fuel and supplies will be taken aboard and port documentation procedures completed. The vessel will sail for Amsterdam Island on January 15, 2014. The sailing time to Amsterdam Island will be 9 days, with an estimated arrival date of January 24.

Landing operations will commence as soon as the sea conditions and weather allow. Once the team is ashore, they will have 18 days to set up, conduct the DXpedition, and tear down for departure.
The return sail to Fremantle is also estimated at 9 days. The team anticipates being back in Fremantle by February 23, 2014.
