Subject: [SWARL] Bob Treacher

Hello Ullmar e.o.,
I wrote several emails to Bob Treachers'email address about two years ago, asking if he still was managing the SWL Challenges in connection with the CQ WW DX Contest and the WPX Contest. No answer..... After that I also wrote him a letter, asking the same, no answer either. A few months ago I found out accidently that he has got a HAM call now: M3RCV (see qrz.com).I worked him during the PACC Contest 2008, at the time not knowing that the operator was Bob! I'am afraid that Bob has cut off all his formerly connections with the SWL community.
Now I'am awaiting the opportunity to meet him on the 80m band, asking him the same questions!

Best regards, Ruud, NL290 / PG1R.

...Second place in Europe went to Bob, M3RCV. What a great score from a really dedicated ham. Bob was and still is one of the world’s best SWLers as BRS 32525. From the SWL ranks many a great contester has sprung.

Hello Ruud:

Thanks for the information Ruud. It looks like Bob Treacher has been rather treacherous to us SWLs!! He has been a leading figure in the Radio Communication magazine and this gives him some responsibility. I consider people from Britain very reliable in most cases, this is my experience after more than 50 years of correspondence. But the exception does not annihilate the rule....

Hi Ruud and Ullmar,
I read your messages and the name of Bob Treacher appeared to be not new for me. In fact I searched my old e-mails and found the following:
From G3XTT, IOTA Contest Manager: "There are several reasons why the SWL section has been dropped. Firstly, we no longer have any volunteers to check it. Bob Treacher did it until two years ago, but then had to stop as he no longer had the time".
From an SWL friend from Belgium: "As you probably know there was a very interesting contest (during cqww) organized by Bob Treacher from England but unfortunately the number of entrants (more than 100 the first year) was going down year after year because we have never the results... hi... That man is quite crazy from my opinion...".
